Brian Barnes Music

Guitar and Mandolin teacher Brian Barnes is taking new students at the Celtic Junction. Beginner to advanced students welcomed, from 8 years old to 108.

  • Guitar styles are basic beginning, folk, bluegrass, celtic, blues and jazz, gypsy swing, beginning classical and fingerstyle. Lessons available in music theory and improv, and in reading/writing notation.
  • Mando styles include bluegrass, Celtic, beginning classical, and jazz.

Lessons are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays afternoon and evening, and some Saturdays. Cost is $23 per half-hour.

Brian Barnes has a diverse musical biography spanning more than 30 years. He's toured Japan, Holland, Germany, Austria, France, Italy, Spain, Belgium, and Switzerland (as well as the U.S. and Canada) as a Bluegrass musician; performed Country music at concerts and festivals in eastern Europe; traditional Irish in America and Ireland; blues in Hungary; French music at Lincoln Center; American Swing and Latin music in Vienna. As a musician and orchestra director for the nationally renowned Ethnic Dance Theatre, he performed Russian, Serbian, Croatian and Bulgarian Music on traditional instruments. He’s studied Balalaika with a Russian priest, percussion with drummers from the Ossetian and Uzbeki state orchestras, jazz guitar with a Berkley grad, Bulgarian bagpipes in Sofia, Bulgaria.

As a recording artist Brian appears on projects equally as varied, is a producer, and is composer/music director for independent film projects plus his own film music company, MovieVaudeville.

Brian is always busy teaching, composing, performing, and recording, is trying to get better on the accordion before someone kills him, ditto the lap steel. It's a big, big world full of great music. Join in!!
