Irish guitarist and singer/songwriter Patsy O’Brien joins New York fiddle player Matt Mancuso on an album of traditional songs and tunes that reflects their love for the genre and showcases their fresh approach to the music’s old standards. Both members of the Cathy Ryan Band, their love of traditional Irish and jazz influences make them a unique addition to the Irish and world music communities.
County Cork-born singer and guitarist Patsy O’Brien is not only a distinguished solo performer, but he has toured extensively with Eileen Ivers, Paddy Keenan, Cathie Ryan, Teada and other notable ensembles. A sought after session musician, he has appeared on numerous CDs on both sides of the Atlantic. In addtion to being a featured artist on NPR’s All Songs Considered, his “Sacco and Vanzettti (Rise and Unite)” won Best Songwriting Award from the CT Folk Alliance in 2003.
New York-born Matt Mancuso is an extraordinary musician. His fiddle playing reveals a deep technical mastery of the instrument that underpins a rare spirit and exuberance. A student of the renowned musician and teacher Maureen Glynn, Matt has performed to sell-out crowds throughout the world as the star fiddle player in Lord of the Dance, and as a member of The Micky Finns and the Irish supergroup Grada.
